Nah, real talk, why do some people always feel the need to humble somebody who’s already humble?
Like, what exactly are you trying to take away? The ego I never had? 😂
I’m not walking around thinking I’m better than nobody. I don’t need to be the smartest nigga in the room, I don’t need everybody’s attention, and I damn sure don’t need to prove myself to every person I come across.
So what’s the problem?
Some people really be going out their way to humble you when you weren’t even trying to stunt in the first place. Offering unsolicited advice, explaining shit you already know, talking to you like you don’t know no better. And for what? Who are you trying to impress?
I never said I was above you, so why are you so concerned with bringing me down?
That’s what I don’t get. It’s like some people can’t interact with you without trying to establish some kind of hierarchy. They gotta be the one who knows more, the one who puts you on game, the one who makes sure you know they got something you don’t.
And the crazy part? Sometimes you don’t even be saying nothing. You just minding your business, staying in your lane, and somebody still feels the need to check your ego.
Check it for what, though? 😂
I think some people mistake humility for weakness. If you don’t talk much, they assume you don’t know much. If you don’t brag about what you do, they assume you ain’t doing shit. If you don’t constantly speak on what you’re capable of, they assume you aren’t capable of much.
They confuse being low-key with being clueless.
And just because I don’t feel the need to announce everything I know or everything I’m working on doesn’t mean I need somebody to come educate me on life.
Being humble doesn’t mean I’m oblivious. Being quiet doesn’t mean I’m stupid. And not flexing doesn’t mean I ain’t got nothing to show for myself.
I can respect what you know without acting like I don’t know shit myself. I can acknowledge that you have more experience in something without treating you like you’re superior to me as a person.
That’s the difference between confidence and ego. I know I don’t know everything. Never claimed to. But I’m also not about to act like I know nothing just so you can feel like you know everything.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m always willing to learn. If you know something I don’t, put me on. I’m not too proud to take advice or admit when I’m wrong.
But there’s a difference between putting somebody on game and talking down to them. There’s a difference between giving advice and acting like somebody needs you to explain every little thing to them.
If you’re genuinely trying to help, cool. But if you just need to feel like you’re above somebody, that’s a you problem.
Because some of us aren’t competing with anybody. We’re not trying to outdo you, outshine you, or prove we’re better than you. We’re just trying to do our own thing and get where we’re trying to go.
Not everybody is in competition with you. Sometimes you’re the only one keeping score.
And honestly, I’m not about to start acting arrogant just because somebody keeps mistaking my humility for a lack of confidence. I’m not going to start bragging, flexing, or listing my accomplishments to convince people who I am.
If you underestimate me, that’s your business. If you assume I don’t know something, that’s your assumption to make. I’m not obligated to correct every misconception somebody has about me.
But don’t confuse my decision not to prove myself with an inability to do so.
And don’t mistake my humility for permission to talk to me any kind of way.
At the end of the day, I know what I bring to the table. I also know what I still need to work on. Both can be true. I don’t need to think I’m better than you to know I’m not beneath you.
So, again, what exactly are you trying to humble?
The ego I never had?
Or do you just need somebody to feel smaller so you can feel bigger?
Because if you need me to think less of myself for you to feel good about yourself, you might wanna ask yourself who really has the ego problem.
I’m just saying. 🤷🏾♂️
